Types of Poker Games Played in UK
Poker is a popular skill-based card game in which players make wagers into a central pot or the sum of money wagered. This amount of money is then awarded to the player with the best combination of cards who is the winner of the game. There are many types of poker games with different rules, styles and strategies. However, some of the most played and popular poker games played in UK are mentioned here:
Texas Hold' em can be called as one of the most popular and the best poker game in the world. Although, it was introduced in the US first, its popularity in UK has been increasing ever since and now every land and online UK casino offers Texas Hold' em poker due to its fast paced play and simple rules.
The game can be played with as little as two players and as much as 10 players. It consists of four betting rounds in which each player receives two private cards face-down and five community cards face-up in the center of the table. These cards are shared by all the players and the player who has the highest hand, the particular combination of cards held by the player, at the showdown wins the pot. If you are new to poker in UK, it is best for you to start playing poker from this game. After playing and gaining some experience you will know if this is the game for you or not.
Omaha Hi
Omaha Hi is one of the popular poker games played between two to ten players. The concept of the game is same as that of Texas Hold' em in which each player receives four cards face-down and five community cards face-up placed in the center of the table and shared by all the players. Each player creates the most valued hand, using any two of their four private cards and any three of the five community cards. Omaha Hi Lo or Omaha 8 or Better is another version of the same game with the same set of rules.
However, in this game, each player has to create the highest valued or lowest valued qualifying hand using two of their four private and any three of the five community cards. In Omaha Hi, the winning strategies are significantly different from Texas Hold' em poker, which make it an exiting game.
Another kind of poker popular in the UK is Seven Card Stud. It is very different from Texas Hold' em and Omaha Hi as played in the UK. It is played between two to eight players. Betting in Seven Card Stud can be called a kind of blind betting, where the payers bet without knowing their cards, preceded by five betting rounds. Each player receives three face-down cards and four face-up cards.
The player, who creates the highest valued hand using any five of the combination of seven cards, wins the game. Seven Card Stud Hi Lo and Seven Card Stud 8 or Better is another version of the game with same set of rules in which each player is required to create either a highest or the lowest qualifying hand with the combination of five cards out of the seven received. Here the player also holds the choice that if he does not like the card he has been dealt, he can discard it.
Five Card Draw
This is the oldest and one of the best poker games in UK. Five Card Draw Poker is played between two to eight players and consists of an initial blind betting followed by two betting rounds. Each player receives five cards face-down and may discard or draw up to five cards after the first betting round. The player who has the highest hand at the showdown wins the game.
Caribbean Stud Poker
This is another form of poker vastly different from the ones discussed above. In Caribbean Stud poker, the players are playing against the casino or the room which acts as the bank or the dealer playing the winning bets. To win the game, the player has to beat the dealer's hand. These are some of the popular poker games played in UK. Apart from these, other poker games such as Pineapple Hold' em - Crazy Pineapple, Draw Poker, Lowball, Razz and Badugi are frequently played in UK, with slight differences in way of playing and strategies.
